Ingredients

  • 3 pounds apples, cored & sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Water (approximately 6-8 cups)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or sweetener of your choice (optional)

Instructions

Slow Cooker

  1. Add apples, orange, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and maple syrup to the slow cooker. Add enough water to cover the apples, approximately 6 to 8 cups. Stir gently to mix.
  2. Cook HIGH 2-3 hours or LOW 4­-6 or until apples are soft.
  3. Directly in the slow cooker, mash the softened apples with a potato masher or wooden spoon.
  4. Strain mashed fruit out using mesh strainer.

Instant Pot

  1. Add apples, orange, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and maple syrup to the Instant Pot. Add enough water to cover the apples. Stir gently to mix.
  2. Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and cook for 15 minutes. Natural release pressure.
  3. Directly in the pressure cooker, mash the softened apples with a potato masher or wooden spoon.
  4. Strain mashed fruit out using mesh strainer.
