How To Make Cajun Shrimp Boil
Making this Cajun shrimp boil is very easy. This is a true set-it-and-forget-it slow cooker recipe with the exception of the shrimp. Shrimp cooks fairly fast in the slow cooker or Instant Pot so wait until the last 10 minutes of cooking to add the shrimp.
Slow Cooker
Add all ingredients EXCEPT the shrimp to the slow cooker. Stir to mix well. Cook HIGH 2-3 hours or LOW 4-6. Stir in shrimp gently and cook 10 minutes or until shrimp are pink. Drain water & serve.
Instant Pot
Add all the ingredients to the pressure cooker EXCEPT the shrimp. Close and seal vent. Select high pressure for 4 minutes. When cooking time is complete, quick-release the pressure. Open the lid. Add shrimp. Place lid back on the pressure cooker and let is on the WARM setting for 3-5 minutes or until shrimp are pink. Drain water and serve.
What Is A Shrimp Boil?
A shrimp boil is a Southern one-pot meal that consists of shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage. The corn, potatoes, and sausage cook together or boil I should say in a large pot along with Old Bay seasoning. I gave this boil a Cajun spin by replacing the Old Bay with Cajun seasoning.
Cajun Shrimp Boil
If you think about it, seafood boils are easy to modify. This recipe calls for your favorite Cajun seasoning. You can use your preferred brand. Store-bought Cajun seasonings are usually pretty easy to find and should be relatively cheap. I can usually find Cajun seasoning at the dollar store. If you don’t have a Cajun seasoning, my homemade blend is at the end of this blog post.
What Size Appliance To Use
You will need a large slow cooker or Instant Pot for this Cajun recipe. With the food and water, the appliance will be very full. If you use a 6-quart it will be full to the rim. Anything smaller, you’ll have to revise the recipe to lower the quantities.
How To Eat A Cajun Shrimp Boil
The traditional way to eat a seafood boil boil is to pour the food on a table lined with newspaper and eat with your hands. It’s fun and makes clean-up a heck of a lot easier. I understand some people do not like to eat off of a dirty newspaper. You can also serve this shrimp boil on a platter!
Tips For This Slow Cooker Shrimp Boil
- Sprinkle Cajun seasoning on top of the boil before serving.
- Get creative with the seafood. Crab and crawfish are great additions to a boil.
Other Cajun Recipes

Thank you so much! I would add the crab claws & lobster tails the last few minutes of cooking time. Just as you would the shrimp. I hope you enjoy it!

We are always on the look out for new crockpot recipes, especially at this time of year. The holidays are so busy — without our slow cooker, we’d have to eat sandwiches or fast food at least 3 night a week!
