How To Make Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings In the Slow Cooker

Slow Cooker

  1. Place chicken in the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl mix together sauce ingredients. Pour sauce on top of wings.
  3. Add lemon slices on top of the chicken.
  4. Cook HIGH 2-3 hours or low 4-6. You will know the chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165° Fahrenheit.

Instant Pot

  1. Pour water into the pressure cooker. Add the trivet. Season wings with salt & pepper (optional). Place the wings on top of the trivet.
  2. Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and cook 5 minutes. When cooking time is complete,  quick release remaining pressure.
  3. Carefully remove wings from pressure cooker with tongs. Mix together sauce ingredients. Toss with half the sauce & then continue on to the broil steps below. After broiling, pour remaining sauce on top of wings.
    • If you’re not going to broil your wings, you can toss the wings with all of the sauce and serve.

BROIL (optional but recommended): when done cooking, remove wings from the appliance and lay them on a large baking sheet. Place the baking sheet under your oven’s broiler for 2-5 minutes or until wings are crisp to your liking.

Homemade Lemon Pepper Sauce

I am all about homemade sauces so of course this easy slow cooker chicken wings recipes uses a homemade lemon pepper sauce. It was important to me that the sauce be what I call the trifecta: Whole30 compatible, low-carb, and paleo so there’s no sugar or additives. The sauce is basic but flavorful with only a few ingredients: lemon, pepper, broth, garlic, and seasonings.

Broiling The Wings

When you cook chicken wings in the slow cooker or Instant Pot, the end result is succulent wings where the meat falls off the bone. But unfortunately the outside skin is will not be crispy. For crispy wings, you will need to broil the chicken after it’s done cooking. This is an optional (they’ll still taste fine if you don’t) but recommended step. To do so, carefully remove the wings from the slow cooker or Instant Pot. They will be hot so use tongs. Lay the wings on a baking sheet and place them under your the broiler in your oven until they’re crisp to your liking. This is usually 3-5 minutes for me. Sometime I flip them halfway through cooking but not always.

FAQS & Tips

  • Store leftover chicken wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • I used a 3.5 quart slow cooker. Looking to feed a larger crowd? If you have a 5 or 6-quart slow cooker, simply double or triple the recipe.

The meat just fell off the bones, which we liked, but ours came out way too lemony for our liking. Recipe called for 1/2 cup of lemon juice and 1/4 cup chicken broth. Going to try equal parts next time to tone it down a little bit. Otherwise, it was a good recipe that was super easy to make!
