Crockpot spicy chicken and sausage is an easy and flavorful recipe that brings the heat. Combining chicken and your favorite chicken sausage, this slow cooker recipe can be tailored to your liking; make this as hot as you want it to be! Instructions to make this simple chicken recipe in the Instant Pot are also included.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breasts or thighs
  • 12 ounces chicken sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1 garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 ounces diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt (or more)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons thyme
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 jalapeno, sliced (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Slow Cooker

  1. Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker. Stir to mix well.
  2. Cook HIGH 2-3 hours or LOW 4-6.
  3. Garnish with jalapeno before serving (if using).

Instant Pot

  1. Turn on the Instant Pot and select sauté. Once hot, add the oil to the pot. Add onion, celery, and bell pepper & cook for a 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the garlic & cook an additional minute. Turn off the Instant Pot.
  2. Add the broth and deglaze the bottom of the pressure cooker by scraping all the bits off with a wooden spoon.
  3. Stir in all remaining ingredients.
  4. Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and for 12 minutes.
  5. When cooking time is complete, quick release the pressure.
  6. Garnish with jalapeno before serving (if using).
