  • Pre-Packaged Coleslaw
  • Maple Syrup or Honey
  • Limes
  • White Vinegar
  • Cumin
  • Hot Sauce or Red Pepper Flakes
  • Fresh Cilantro

How To Make Sweet & Spicy Coleslaw

  1. Add pre-packaged coleslaw to a large bowl. Add the fresh cilantro and cumin.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the oil, lime juice, maple syrup or honey, vinegar, and hot sauce (or red pepper flakes) until well blended. Pour the mixture on top of the coleslaw. Toss until well blended.
  3. Refrigerate minimum 30 minutes. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Vinegar Based

I am not a fan of mayonnaise. Yes, I said it. I grew up eating miracle whip on my sandwiches but as an adult, no thank you. It was important to me that this coleslaw be mayonnaise free. In place of the mayo, the dressing is a combination of hot sauce, lime juice & vinegar.

Tips & FAQs

  • Make your own coleslaw! You do not have to use a bag of pre-packed. 
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. 
  • To make this coleslaw sweeter, add more honey. To make is spicier, add more hot sauce or red pepper flakes. 
  • For this coleslaw to be vegan, use maple syrup in place of the honey. 
  • Omit the sweetener (maple syrup or honey) for the recipe to be Whole30 compatible or low-carb friendly.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Juice of 2 limes (approximately 1/4 cup)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 3 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce or 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon oil of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
