If you’re using skin-on chicken: add the chicken to the Instant Pot and sear until browned. Remove chicken from the pressure cooker. If you’re using skinless chicken, skip this step.
Add onions and cook until soft.
Prepare & pour the sauce into the pressure cooker and deglaze the bottom of the pot by scraping all the bits off with a wooden spoon.
Add chicken back into the Instant Pot. Add apples (and potatoes if using) on top.
Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and cook 12 minutes. When cook time is complete, quick release the pressure.
If you use skin-on chicken, whether you’re using the slow cooker or pressure cooker, you have the option to broil the chicken afterwards to crisp the skin.
