Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes (NO BOIL)

Slow cooker mashed potatoes is easy to make and produces fluffy potatoes. NO pre-boiling! With just a bit peeling and chopping, this recipe delivers creamy mashed potatoes with minimal effort. Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or busy weeknights. Instructions to make this easy mashed potato recipe in the Instant Pot are also included.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 pounds potatoes, peeled & chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth
Optional ingredients to add:
  • 1 cup cream or milk of your choice
  • 6 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • 2 teaspoons salt (or more)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

Slow Cooker

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes.
  2. Spray the slow cooker with cooking spray. Add the potatoes to the slow cooker. Pour broth on top.
  3. Cook HIGH 2-3 hours or LOW 4-6.
  4.  Let cool slightly. Add your preferred mashed potatoes ingredients. Using hand potato masher, mash potatoes until smooth.

Instant Pot

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes and add to the Instant Pot.
  2. Add enough water to cover all the potatoes.
  3. Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and cook for 30 minutes. When cooking time is complete, manually release the pressure.
  4.  Let cool slightly.  Add your preferred mashed potatoes ingredients. Using hand potato masher, mash potatoes until smooth.
