FAQs & Tips
What kind of apples should you use?
What type of apple you use to make unsweetened applesauce in the crockpot is up to you. While you should use your preferred type of apple, since this recipe does not use sugar, I suggest using a sweet apple like gala or red delicious.
There’s no added sugar?
Nope! This is unsweetened applesauce so there is no added sugar.
How to you get the apples to an applesauce consistency?
I used a potato masher. Other suggestions include a regular blender, food processors, or immersion blender. Let the applesauce cool slightly before blending to your desired consistency. The applesauce will thicken and darken as it cools.
How do you store the leftovers?
Store leftover slow cooker homemade applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When stored properly it will keep for up to 10 days. You can also freeze leftover homemade applesauce! Place in a freezer bag & store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
What size slow cooker did I use?
I used my 3.5-quart slow cooker for this recipe.

I’m trying this recipe for the first time. I’ve made applesauce before but used a regular pot. This is soooo much easier. Thanks.

I usually make homemade applesauce in my crockpot but I made this in my Instant Pot after finding the recipe on Pinterest. Nice & easy recipe. No cinnamon for me I don’t like it. So much easier than the crockpot.
