Ingredients For Slow Cooker Smothered Turkey Wings

  • Turkey Wings
  • Onion
  • Bell Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Chicken Broth
  • Cornstarch
  • Seasonings: dried thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper

How To Make Smothered Turkey Wings In The Crock-Pot

Slow Cooker

  1. Add the broth, cornstarch, and gravy seasonings to the slow cooker. Whisk until well blended and there are no lumps.
  2. Add the turkey wings to a large bowl. Drizzle with oil and add all the turkey seasonings. Mix until the turkey wings are evenly seasoned on all sides. Place the  seasoned turkey wings into the slow cooker.
  3. Top with the onion and bell pepper.
  4. Cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours or LOW 6 to 8.
  5. Remove the turkey wings, onions, and bell peppers. Stir the gravy in the slow cooker. Serve the gravy over the turkey wings & vegetables.

What are smothered turkey wings?

Smothered turkey wings are seasoned turkey wings that are slow cooked in gravy until tender. There are many ways to make this classic Southern recipe.  

Can you use flour as a thickening agent?

Unfortunately, I have not made this recipe using flour as a substitute to the cornstarch.  

Is this spicy?

Nope!

How do you serve smothered turkey wings?

Technically you can just eat the smothered wings as-is with the gravy, onions, and bell peppers. These are great with a side like rice or mashed potatoes. Pasta is another good option.

How do you store leftovers?

Store leftover crockpot smothered turkey wings in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. 

What size slow cooker did you use?

I use a  6-quart slow cooker for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds turkey wings, cleaned and separated into flats and drumettes with the tips removed
  • 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup arrowroot starch or cornstarch
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Gravy Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or more)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Turkey Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or more)
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

Slow Cooker

  1. Add the broth, cornstarch, and gravy seasonings to the slow cooker. Whisk until well blended and there are no lumps.
