How To Make Corned Beef In The Air Fryer

After a quick prep, the corned beef is ready for the air fryer. Corned beef is a tough cut of meat so it cooks for almost 2 hours. This is a lot shorter than other methods like in the oven or slow cooker but the taste is also different.  When you cook corned beef in the slow cooker or even Instant Pot, the result is super tender corned beef. When you air fry corned beef, the result is a super juicy corned beef but it’s not falling apart tender. At least I did not find that to be the case and I made this several times before posting the recipe.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350.
  2. Add the prepared corned beef in the foil to the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook 60 minutes.
  4. Unwrap the foil. Spread another layer of the mustard mixture on top of the corned beef. Re-tent the foil around the meat and cook another 40 minutes.
  5. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.

What Is Corned Beef

Corned beef  is beef brisket that’s cured in a seasoned brine. When cooked, the corned beef will have a dull, gray color on the outside. Don’t worry, this is normal. This means it’s cooked. When you slice the corned beef, the inside should have the normal pink coloring that you’re used to. The pink coloring in corned beef comes from the beef being cured in either saltpeter or sodium nitrates.

What Size Corned Beef To Use

The size of the corned beef that you will need for this recipe will depend on the size of your air fryer. It’s written for a cut of beef that’s 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. I used a large 6-quart air fryer and 2.75 pounds of corned beef.

What Type Of Mustard To Use

Grab your preferred mustard for this air fryer corned beef recipe. I prefer to use a spicy brown mustard, Dijon, stone ground…a mustard with bit of kick to it. What you see in the pics is stone ground mustard.

How To Serve Corned Beef

Corned beef is meant to be served sliced against the grain. When cooking time has completed, let the corned beef rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Storing Leftover Corned Beef

Store leftover corned beef in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 day. You can also freeze cooked, leftover corned beef. To do so, add the beef to a freezer-friendly zip-lock back. It will store for up to 2 months in the freezer.

Tips For This Recipe

  • Be sure to buy a corned beef with the spiced packet.
  • Keep in mind that every air fryer heats differently. I don’t know how much your corned beef weighs or how thick of a piece of meat it is. Use the cooking time as a guide. Your meat may need to cook a little longer or a little less.
  • Let the corned beef rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 - 3 pounds corned beef, fat trimmed, with spice packet
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 2 tablespoon apple cider

Instructions

Prepare The Corned Beef

  1. Rinse the corned beef & pat dry.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the mustard, vinegar, and the spice packet that comes with the corned beef.
  3. Lay down a large piece of foil. Spread a thin layer of the mustard mixture on the foil. Place the corned beef on top of the mixture. Spread another layer of the mustard mixture on the top of the corned beef.
  4. Wrap the corned beef in foil by bringing the shorter edges to the center, then fold them over each other to make a seam in the center. Fold in the edges to seal so that you create a foil packet around the corned beef.

Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350.
  2. Add the prepared corned beef in the foil to the air fryer basket. Cook 60 minutes.
  3. Unwrap the foil and spread another layer of the mustard mixture on top of the meat. Re-tent the foil around the meat and cook an additional 40 minutes. Optional: unwrap the foil and spread one last layer across the top. Cook uncovered for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the outside.
  4.  Carefully remove the corned beef from the air fryer basket.
  5. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

You meat may take longer to cook or less to cook.
