Air Fryer Marinated Steak + VIDEO

This air fryer marinated steak is so juicy you wouldn’t believe it. Using a healthy, homemade marinade, this fool-proof steak recipe cooks in less than 15 minutes!

PIN FOR LATER

I know most people turn to the grill during summer months but I’m not much of a griller. If you want a delicious, juicy steak but you’re not much a griller like me, the air fryer is the next best thing. Or dare I say even better than the grill!

What Is An Air Fryer?

What is an air fryer exactly? The name air fryer is a little bit confusing, because when you cook food in your air fryer you aren’t actually frying it. An air fryer cooks your food by circulating hot air around the food at a very high-speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy ‘fried’ layer. This is called convection so your air fryer is actually a small countertop convection oven. An air fryer can help you cook your food faster while still getting a nice baked or fried texture on the outside, all with a very small amount of oil. Air fryers come in a variety of different sizes and styles. What you see here in the pics is a 5.8-quart air fryer that easily fit my 2 pounds of steaks.

What Cut Of Beef To Use

Use your preferred cut! What you see in the pics are sirloin steaks but you can air fry whatever cut of steak that will fit in your fryer. I usually use rib-eyes but I happened to find sirloins on sale. When it comes to using the air fryer to cook steak, the cut doesn’t matter as much as cooking the meat to the correct internal temperature.

A Healthy Marinade

The star of this recipe is the healthy, homemade marinade. The marinade is what I call the trifecta meaning it’s low-carb, paleo, and whole30 compliant. It also uses basic ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. If you don’t have coconut aminos, you can use low-sodium soy sauce in its place however the recipe will no longer be paleo or whole30 compliant.

How Long To Marinate Your Steaks For

Most recipes will tell you to marinate steaks from 2 to 24 hours. I usually let mine marinate for around 6 hours. Turn the steaks once over the marinating time so all the sides are coated evenly with the marinade and remember always marinate your meat in the refrigerator.

Can You Use Frozen Steak?

While yes, normally you can cook steak from frozen in the air fryer, with this recipe I suggest you use fresh or thawed steak. You can however marinate the steak from frozen if you are going to marinate them long enough in the refrigerator for the meat to completely thaw. The steak can thaw in the marinade however trying to marinate fully frozen steaks to cook from frozen won’t work.

How Long To Cook The Steak

How long you cook your steak will depend on how well you like your meat cooked. My air fryer instruction booklet came with the following cooking times listed below for air fryer steak: 400 degrees: 8 minutes for rare, 10 minutes for medium-rare, 12 minutes for medium, and 14 minutes for medium-well. These times seems to be the general consensus online. Having said that, every appliance is different; some air fryers heat hotter than others. You also have to take into consideration the thickness your steaks are. A thick ribeye steak will take longer to cook than a thin sirloin. Use the times as guidelines; for your first time cooking marinated steak in the air fryer, I suggest you play it conservative. You can always add additional time but if you overcook it, there’s no going back. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook your steaks in batches or even cut them into pieces to fit.

I used a 5.8-quart air fryer  for this recipe.
