Slow cooker chicken and gravy is a simple yet comforting dinner that feels like classic home cooking. Chicken breasts or thighs slow cooks savory, herb-seasoned gravy that cooks directly in the crockpot. Using just a handful of pantry staples and minimal prep, this chicken and gravy recipe delivers big comfort with very little effort.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds chicken boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot starch or corn starch
  • salt and pepper

Gravy Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or more)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Add the broth, starch, and the gravy seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme) the slow cooker. Whisk until well blended and there are no lumps.
  2. Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper and add to the slow cooker.
  3. Cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours or LOW 6 to 8.
  4. Remove the chicken, shred it, and then add it back to the pot.

Notes

If your gravy is clumpy when it’s done cooking, give the gravy a good stir. The clumps will disappear.
