Slow Cooker

  1. Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker. Stir gently to mix.
  2. Cook covered on LOW for 1 hour then uncover & set to WARM. Or just set to WARM.  Setting it to low first makes the aroma fill the air faster.

  3. Set the Instant Pot to the WARM setting and let sit uncovered.

A Holiday Gift

This homemade potpourri makes a great gift! Combine the remaining ingredients in a glass jar, plastic baggie, or something like a burlap bag. Keep in mind that the fresh ingredients will begin to rot after a few days. If you do not think your recipient will use the gift immediately, omit the cranberries and orange slices.

FAQs & Tips

  • Make this up to 2 days ahead and store in an airtight mason jar until ready to use.
  • Star anise is listed as optional because it can be expensive and hard to find.
  • The slow cooker potpourri can simmer for hours or days. If the water starts to evaporate, add more water to keep it going.
  • Get creative with your potpourri. For example, if you do not have an orange, use lemon slices. Optional ingredients to add include ginger slices, vanilla beans or a few drops of vanilla extract, nutmeg, apple slices, etc.

  1. Can what you’ve used already be stored and used over again? Or does this recipe make one time and you have to use fresh the next time?

  2. Wonderful! Everyone who entered my home for my Christmas party commented on how good it smelled. This is a game changer!
