FAQs & Tips
Do you need to add liquid with the slow cooker?
Nope! I do not add any liquid to the slow cooker, just the seasoned meat. The chicken leg will release enough moisture
Can you use a different seasoning?
Absolutely. Feel free to swap in your favorite homemade or store-bought seasoning.
Can you use frozen chicken legs?
Technically you can add frozen chicken to the slow cooker however, I recommend thawing beforehand.
Can you use a different cut of chicken?
Yes. This recipe works great with other cuts of dark meat like thighs or wings. If you want to use chicken breasts, reduce the cooking time by an hour or so and do not let the chicken sit in the slow cooker on the warm setting.
Will the chicken be crispy?
Nope! To you achieve crispy skin, you will need to remove the chicken from the slow cooker or Instant Pot and place under the broiler.
How do you store leftovers?
Store leftover slow cooker chicken legs in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
What size slow cooker did you use?
I used a large 6-quart slow cooker or Instant Pot for this recipe. If you have a smaller slow cooker, use less chicken!

I tried the recipe today and it did not turn out as pictured. After cooking in crock pot, the skin never gained any crisp so i had to put under broiler. Disappointment
The blog post specifically says if you want your legs to have crispy skin, you will need to place them under the broiler….
The author mentioned if you wanted to add crispiness put it under the broiler for a couple of minutes
This was so tasty! I have never used a slow cooker without liquid and was a little nervous, but sure enough the liquid came from the meat and there was liquid left at the end. It tasted so good, my picky kids loved it and ask for more, and this was the only recipe I could find online for slow cooker drumsticks that didn’t have bbq sauce or a bunch of other sauces. It didn’t need it at all, so tasty!!
