Ingredients For Crock-Pot Cajun Cabbage Sausage Shrimp

  • Cabbage
  • Smoked Sausage
  • Shrimp
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Broth (chicken, beef or vegetable)
  • Seasonings: Cajun, dried thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper

How To Make Cajun Cabbage Sausage Shrimp

Slow Cooker

  1. Add all the ingredients EXCEPT the shrimp to the slow cooker. Toss gently until well combined.
  2. Cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours or LOW 4 to 6.
  3. Season the shrimp with 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning. Add the shrimp and cook an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until the shrimp are no longer pink.

Instant Pot

  1. Add all the ingredients EXCEPT the shrimp to the Instant Pot. Toss gently until well combined.
  2. Close lid and seal valve. Set high pressure and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. When cooking time is complete, quick release the pressure.
  4. Season the shrimp with 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning. Stir the shrimp into the Instant Pot. Let sit with the cover on for 5 to 10 minutes or until the shrimp are no longer pink. 

FAQs & Tips

What type of sausage should you use?

This recipe calls for smoked sausage or kielbasa. Andouille sausage is a great option if you want extra Cajun heat.

Do you need to brown the sausage beforehand?

Nope! This is a true dump-and-go recipe slow cooker recipe. However, if you want to deepen the flavor, you can quickly sauté the sausage before adding it to the slow cooker, but it’s completely optional. This recipe will taste just as good if you omit this step.

What type of shrimp should you use?

I like thawed, peeled, and deveined shrimp for this recipe however technically any type of shrimp will work. Yes, you can even use frozen or cooked shrimp. How do you store leftovers?

Store leftover crockpot Cajun cabbage sausage shrimp in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. 

What size slow cooker should you use?

I used a 6-quart slow cooker or Instant Pot.

  • 1 head green cabbage, chopped
  • 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced into 1-inch rounds
  • 3/4 pound shrimp
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
