FAQs & Tips

What Is A Shrimp Boil?

A shrimp boil is a Southern one-pot meal that consists of shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage. The corn, potatoes, and sausage cook together or boil I should say in a large pot along with Old Bay seasoning. I gave this boil a Cajun spin by replacing the Old Bay with Cajun seasoning.

What Cajun seasoning should you use?

This recipe calls for your favorite Cajun seasoning.  You can use your preferred brand.  Store-bought Cajun seasonings are usually pretty easy to find and should be relatively cheap. I can usually find Cajun seasoning at the dollar store. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning on top of the boil before serving.

How do you eat a Cajun shrimp boil

The traditional way to eat a seafood boil boil is to pour the food on a table lined with newspaper and eat with your hands. It’s fun and makes clean-up a heck of a lot easier. I understand some people do not like to eat off of a dirty newspaper. You can also serve this shrimp boil on a platter!

Can you add other seafood?

Absolutely! Turn this into a slow cooker seafood boil and get creative with the seafood.

How do you store leftovers?

Store leftover slow cooker Cajun shrimp boil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

What size slow cooker should you use?

You will need a large 6-quart slow cooker or Instant Pot.

  3. We are always on the look out for new crockpot recipes, especially at this time of year. The summers are so busy — without our slow cooker, we’d have to eat sandwiches or fast food at least 3 night a week! This was perfect for our hot Arizona summer. We ate outside after the sun went down. Perfect!
